A tattoo is a deeply personal and serious commitment. Not only is the image permanent, but it forever proclaims to the world that this is who you are and, in some cases, what you beleive. The decision to be tattooed is not as simple a matter as getting your hair cut or getting your nails done: you will forever be marked with an indelible image that you can neither rub off with the proper solvent nor let grow out if you don't think it suits you. Being tattooed means you are no longer pristine, no longer in your natural state.
Not that tattoos are a bad thing. Modern tattooing techniques have advanced in leaps and bounds from the crude, cartoonish renderings of sailors. In fact, many tattoo artists boast art degrees from accredited universities in addition to their licenses to practice the tattooing arts. Gone are the days – at least theoretically – of the back alley parlors who cater to drunken swabbies and skimp on sterilization. Health Department inspectors and regulations governing the tattoo industry require artists to become certified and licensed professionals in order to provide this highly specialized service.
Basic Tattoo HygieneJust as with a restaurant or departmetn store, hygiene is important. The first impression is very important. It shows professionalism and pride in one's work that their establishment is well- maintained. The floors of the parlor should be clean, free of dirt and debris, and the counters should be free of clutter and sanitized.
