Every year, experts and fans have fun putting themselves on the line and making bold predictions such as final standings, and Stanley Cup champions. I felt like a genius having predicted the Philadelphia Flyers to represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup finals at this time last year. However, I also felt like a fool having selected the Calgary Flames to represent the West. Here is an abbreviated look at my final standings. Eastern Conference

1. Washington Capitals
2. New Jersey Devils
3. Buffalo Sabres
4. Pittsburgh Penguins
5. Philadelphia Flyers
6. Tampa Bay Lightning
7. Boston Bruins
8. Toronto Maple Leafs
9. Atlanta Thrashers
10. Ottawa Senators
11. Carolina Hurricanes
12. New York Rangers
13. Montreal Canadiens
14. New York Islanders
15. Florida Panthers

The top four are pretty well set. I don't see anybody beating Washington or Buffalo for the division title though Pittsburgh may unseat New Jersey. Six and 7 are interchangable as is 8-10. The Islanders have a young and exciting team this season that showed a lot of promise on paper. However with injuries to Okposo, Shremp and Streit and the inevitable injury to DiPietro the team will have a hard time finding bodies to fill the roster let alone make a run. They and the Florida Panthers will be separated from the rest of the pack and at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
